Man Altered Landscapes

This project takes a critical view of formal and visual issues related to altered landscapes in Beirut, Lebanon. Inspired by German photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher as well as “The New Topographics” movement, the aim was to show the many ways in which “man altered landscapes” can be looked at. Often do we pass by construction sites, gas and water tanks without paying attention to their formal features, or how appealing those may be.

Carine Lemyre was born in Montreal, Canada but has lived most of her life in Lebanon. She holds a bachelor of arts in Studio Arts with a minor in Philosophy from the American University of Beirut, and is currently a graduate student in the department of History of Art at the University of Toronto.
