Small Moment
Artist’s Statement:
In a time when we’re all struggling with reality, Small Moment provides a miniature escape. This moment is such a beautiful one, stolen in moments of waiting, wandering, or escaping. I wonder what the little figure is dreaming about.
About the Artist:
Jennifer Akkermans is a Canadian artist, whose work examines the emotional content of home, memory, and belonging. Jennifer holds an MFA from the University of Waterloo and a BFA from the Alberta College of Art + Design. She has exhibited at Pier 21, the Art Gallery of Calgary, the Esker Foundation, the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, and the Niagara Artists Centre. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre, the Living Arts Centre, the Gushul studio, and the Fluid Festival. As a recipient of the Shantz Internship, she spent two months in Germany working with Alexandra Bircken. She currently lives and works in Toronto.
