Arma Yari is an Iranian-born Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. She received her B.F.A in Photography from OCAD University and holds an Advanced Diploma degree in Broadcasting and Film from Centennial College. Arma’s approach is based on blending disciplines of art, design and engineering, and the incorporation of both philosophical theory and mysticism. She amalgamates photography, video, and sculpture in her work, exploiting the inherent tension within these media to communicate the dichotomy of harmony and chaos through the juxtaposition of stillness and movement. By creating a range of intense and novel sensory experiences that simulates mystical states, meant to replace feelings of loneliness and isolation with a sense of belonging, Arma transforms familiar materials– glass, light, and mirrors– into mystical objects that, through visual cues that are simultaneously abstract and concrete, literal and symbolic, invite the viewer to experience reality as a boundless and timeless space.
